College basketball: Cal State East Bay at Nevada

The first opportunity to see the University of Nevada men’s basketball team under the direction first-year head coach Steve Alford and his staff will be Saturday at 5 p.m. at Lawlor Events Center in Reno  The Wolf Pack will host Cal State East Bay in an exhibition contest with all seats being $10 general admission tickets.  Nevada students and Starting 5 members with their lanyards are free.

Nevada returns Jazz Johnson, the Mountain West Sixth Man of the Year along with seniors Lindsey Drew and Nizre Zouzoua. Jazz averaged 11 points per game for the Pack last season. Drew a three-year starter returns for his senior year after missing last season with an achilles injury.  Zouzoua appeared in 21 games last season.  Johnson and Zouzoua are both 1,000 point scorers.

Junior guard Jalen Harris and redshirt freshman K.J. Hymes sat out last season and are ready to contribute this season. Harris averaged 12.2 points per game in two seasons at Louisiana Tech.

Newcomers include Robby Robinson, Kane Milling, Johncarlos Reyes, Zane Meeks, Eric Parrish, Gabe Banseulo and Zachary Williams. Desmond Cambridge and Warren Washington will redshirt this season after transferring from Brown and Oregon State.  Khristion Courseault will also redshirt as he recovers from an ACL injury.

Three players from last year’s team are competing for roster spots in the NBA, which makes final cuts on Monday. Caleb and Cody Martin are with Charlotte, and Tre’Shawn Thurman just signed with the Pistons. Jordan Caroline was released by the Lakers after he had foot surgery.
